Lego is stirring rumors in the Formula 1 paddock for 2026 with a project that hints at a surprising debut. The announcement, made directly from the Las Vegas paddock, showcased a fully Lego-branded car and confirmed young Dutch driver Esmee Kosterman at the wheel. For a moment, it seemed that the famous Danish brand might field its own F1 team next year. In reality, the project is part of a multi-year partnership aimed at a deeper goal: making motorsport more inclusive and representative.
“Building the Future”: what the key figures said
The initiative involves F1 Academy, the Lego Group, and the entire Formula 1 ecosystem, which for 2026 will feature an iconic and colorful livery. The decision reflects a growing desire to introduce younger generations—especially girls—to a world where access has traditionally been limited. The car unveiled in Las Vegas, along with the new Lego set inspired by the real model, is designed to transform play into a tool for representation and opportunity.
During the launch, Susie Wolff, Managing Director of F1 Academy, explained: “This collaboration is not just about building a Lego car; it’s about building confidence in what is possible.” She added that the goal is to allow young fans to “see themselves, their potential, and their place in motorsport—from engineer to driver to leader.”
From the Danish giant’s side, Julia Goldin, Chief Product & Marketing Officer of the LEGO Group, highlighted: “F1 Academy is leveling the playing field in motorsport. We can’t wait to see Lego Racing on the grid and we are thrilled to have Esmee as our driver.”
