After the first three rounds of the 2023 Formula 1 championship, in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Australia, the sport is now currently taking a three-week break as a result of the cancellation of the Chinese Grand Prix.
However, just a few GPs were enough for the Ferrari fans to understand how things stand this year: the performances are far below expectations and the Maranello team is even behind Mercedes and Aston Martin in this start of the season. The scion of the Agnelli family, Lapo Elkann, also expressed his frustration for Ferrari’s moment in a tweet after the 2023 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
From the great expectations of the long winter to the great disappointments of the first races: the 2023 Formula 1 world championship of the Italian side has started in a way that defined as “bad” would be euphemistic. The first three outings of the season brought the Maranello team a mere 26 points.
Very few if we think of the expectations raised during the winter, which painted the SF-23 as an “unprecedented car in terms of speed”, said CEO Benedetto Vigna. Looking at the individual drivers, the highest positioned is Carlos Sainz. However, the Spaniard occupies – with 20 points so far – an unsatisfactory fifth position, shared with the Canadian Lance Stroll.
On the other side of the garage, the points and overall performance is even more severe. Charles Leclerc comes out of the Sakhir-Jeddah-Melbourne trio with a very poor total. Only six points won by the Monegasque who, due to the retirements in Bahrain and Australia, looks down on the important positions of the standings from the bottom of the tenth place.
The turbulent moment of Scuderia Ferrari worries the fans, even the most illustrious ones. Through a post on his Twitter profile it was Lapo Elkann who expressed his concern for Ferrari – after the Australian Grand Prix.
The nephew of Gianni Agnelli, brother of the current president of Ferrari, wrote on his wall: “Ferrari F1 it’s time to wake up!!!!”. Among the answers, a fan replied: “You should tell your brother (president of Ferrari, ed)”. The new message from Lapo Elkann soon arrived: “I already did”.
