For Scuderia Ferrari, the weekend of the 2023 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix turned out to be, despite the pre-race expectations, truly positive and objectively surprising. In fact, after the good results achieved at the previous Italian Grand Prix, a third and fourth place finish, the red team confirmed, and even tangibly improved, the form seen at Monza.
At the Marina Bay street circuit, the SF-23 was fast from Friday morning and capable of securing the first victory of the season. This was thanks to the car’s performance and the outstanding performance of Carlos Sainz, who was truly in a state of grace.
Under the checkered flag, as mentioned, it was Carlos Sainz who emerged victorious. He pushed to the maximum when necessary and displayed great intelligence, tactical vision, composure, and race reading skills. He finished ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, and his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc. This victory, in addition to bringing joy as expected, holds significant importance in Ferrari’s season. It provides a breath of fresh air to the entire team in a challenging 2023 Formula 1 campaign, rewarding their efforts. It also boosts the team’s morale to give their best in this final part of the championship (while also aiming to catch Mercedes in the constructors’ standings) and lays the foundation for a strong and hopefully winning 2024.
The race undoubtedly thrilled all Scuderia fans, regardless of their preferences for individual drivers, and delivered a Sunday of joy with a flash of red in a season characterized by Red Bull’s dominance. This joy, shared by fans around the world, was also expressed by Lapo Elkann, the brother of Ferrari’s president John Elkann, who has always been deeply passionate and closely involved in the affairs of the F1 team, and has strong ties to many members of the team.
Lapo Elkann conveyed his joy through a tweet on his Twitter profile, emphasizing how with the beautiful and hard-fought victory in Singapore, Ferrari is back where it deserves to be in the world of Formula One. He then offered well-deserved words of praise for one of the primary architects of Ferrari’s Sunday, Carlos Sainz, describing him without reservation as “fantastic.”
“How nice to see Scuderia Ferrari where it deserves to be. Today, a fantastic Carlos.”
