Following Scuderia Ferrari’s extraordinary victory in the 2023 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix with Carlos Sainz, the president of the Prancing Horse, John Elkann, wanted to congratulate the entire Maranello team for the exceptional work done over the weekend. After fourteen races of agony, the Maranello team was the first to break Red Bull’s dominance, triumphing on a track theoretically less favorable to the characteristics of the SF-23, such as Marina Bay.
John Elkann thanks the team after Ferrari’s fantastic victory in the Singapore GP
“We are very happy with today’s victory,” said Maranello’s number one at the end of the Singapore Grand Prix. “Congratulations to the entire Ferrari team on the track and in Maranello, starting with Carlos, who was lightning fast all weekend.”
The presence of top executives from the Prancing Horse, including CEO Benedetto Vigna, already hinted that today’s day would be special in some way. With yesterday’s pole position, the opportunities for victory this time seemed more concrete than ever.
So it turned out in the end, with Carlos Sainz managing to snatch a victory that at a certain point seemed almost unexpected, given the furious comeback of the two Mercedes cars. Both Russell and Hamilton took a gamble, returning to the track with new medium tires against the used hard tires of the top three with 16 laps to go.
Unable to rely on the competitiveness of the car in the final stages, the Spaniard drew on all his experience. With a stroke of genius, the Spanish driver used Lando Norris as a weapon in his favor, keeping the Mercedes of George Russell at bay.
By allowing the McLaren driver to stay just under a second behind, with the consequent possibility of using DRS, number 63 couldn’t overtake Lando, ending up even against the wall on the final lap.
