Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris: mutual respect between champions
Reigning world champion Lando Norris has expressed great satisfaction over Lewis Hamilton’s victory at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, the first win for the British driver since joining Ferrari. The success marked a significant milestone for the Scuderia star, who endured a difficult 2025 campaign without a single victory or podium finish, at one point even describing himself as “absolutely useless.”
On the podium in Barcelona, Lewis Hamilton was joined by George Russell and Lando Norris himself, creating an all-British top three. It was the first entirely British Formula 1 podium since the historic 1968 United States Grand Prix. To find another all-English podium identical in nationality to the one seen in Catalonia, it is necessary to go back an additional decade to the 1958 Portuguese Grand Prix.
Norris highlighted the symbolic importance of the achievement, expressing pride in representing his country alongside two fellow British drivers on such a memorable day for Formula 1.
Norris’ comments on Hamilton’s return to victory
Norris spoke enthusiastically about Hamilton’s success: “I think it’s really cool. It’s pretty special. It’s nice.”
The McLaren driver also pointed out the noticeable improvement in Hamilton’s recent performances: “Over the last few weekends, he’s definitely raised his game. In the past, maybe we could take advantage of certain situations, but now it looks like he’s really getting the maximum out of what he has, and that’s great to see.”
Norris added that his admiration for Hamilton remains strong despite the passing of time:
“I grew up as a fan of Lewis Hamilton. I don’t know if I’d still describe myself as that kind of fan, but I’m still a supporter of his. As a seven-time world champion, it’s always nice to see these kinds of things. And with Ferrari, it’s even better to see this partnership delivering results the way it is now. So yes, it’s special.”
The emotional side and a response to critics
Norris also emphasized how much the victory meant to Lewis Hamilton, noting that the Ferrari driver’s emotions made it obvious just how important the moment was. He touched on the criticism the Briton has faced in recent years and expressed happiness at seeing him prove people wrong: “I’m happy for him. Hopefully he won’t be that fast for the whole season, because it would be nice to fight a little bit more, but credit to him. You could see how much it meant to him.”
Continuing on the subject, Lando Norris underlined the symbolic value of the result in the face of those who had doubted Hamilton:
“At the same time, obviously a lot of people have spoken badly about him and he’s received a lot of rubbish online from many people, so it’s nice that he can give all of them the middle finger.”
For Lando Norris, this victory represents far more than a sporting achievement. It is also a powerful response to the difficulties and criticism Lewis Hamilton has faced in recent years, allowing the Ferrari driver to celebrate his return to the front of the Formula 1 grid in one of the most meaningful ways possible.
