Over the past few seasons, the Briton has been instrumental in McLaren’s transformation from a midfield team into a consistent front-runner. Reflecting on his career, he admitted that some of his previous comments about other drivers were poorly considered and that he now feels genuine remorse.
One notable incident occurred at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix when Lewis Hamilton praised the pace of the McLaren car. At the time, Lando Norris had responded that Hamilton had a fast car years ago and implied that the current generation of drivers, including himself, had now taken over. Looking back, Lando Norris expressed regret for those words.
Lando Norris explained that in the heat of competition, he sometimes said things he wished he could take back, especially regarding Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. He emphasized that he now tries to show more respect toward his rivals, particularly those who have achieved significantly more in Formula 1.
He made it clear that he strives to show admiration for drivers like Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen, and especially Lewis Hamilton, acknowledging Hamilton’s seven world championships and comparing him to Michael Schumacher as one of the greatest drivers in the sport’s history.
Lando Norris admitted that reaching the same level as Lewis Hamilton may never be achievable, but he continues to aspire toward those standards. He also reflected that some of his past comments were unwise, often made in the heat of the moment, but that he now tries to speak and act with greater authenticity and respect.
With his first championship title secured, Lando Norris intends to approach future rivalries with more respect and maturity, learning from the mistakes of his early career controversies and aiming to solidify his legacy in Formula 1.
