Kimi Raikkonen‘s race at the Circuit of Catalunya ended prematurely after the Scuderia Ferrari driver was hit my Valtteri Bottas and could not avoid contact with Max Verstappen immediately after the start. What could have been another podium finish turned out to be a disappointing weekend for Kimi, but here’s what the Finnish driver and his team had to say during the practice sessions and qualifying for the 2017 Spanish Grand Prix:
First practice session:
To Raikkonen: “Maintain position with Seb, don’t overtake him.”
Second practice session:
Raikkonen: “I have a hot water warning.”
“OK we need to cool the engine then, Kimi. You have a big gap behind to Sebastian.”
Raikkonen: “Do we have something on the rear?”
“We have an engine problem I believe, I’ll let you know.”
Raikkonen: “There’s some debris almost on the driving line in the exit of turn nine.”
“Understood Kimi we’ll feed back.”
Raikkonen: “Am I allowed to push now?”
“Stay as you are for now, I’ll get back to you Kimi. Stay out but easy on full throttle.”
Raikkonen: “That Force India squeezed me off the circuit.”
Raikkonen: “Is the lap time very bad?”
“It is quite comparable to the others, Kimi, we have seen quite a big drop for everyone.”
Qualifying:
“This lap you had headwind at turn ten, 2.5. How did the lap feel?””
Raikkonen: “Yeah not bad. Some gusts of wind on the main straight, doesn’t help with the braking. But the balance is there.”
“Understood. Box, box”
Raikkonen: “Is anyone behind me on a lap?”
“No because it’s an in-lap for Perez.”
“OK so that’s P4, Kimi.”
Raikkonen: “OK copy that, not good enough.”
“Copy that, the race is tomorrow.”
Race:
From Kimi Raikkonen: “OK somebody hit me from the rear and I broke steering.”
To Kimi Raikkonen: “OK understood.”
