The Colombian’s words
“There are many things happening behind the scenes, things I want to have a say in, but I can’t reveal too much.” This is how Lewis Hamilton tried to explain during the Canadian GP in interviews with English TV that he still feels ‘in the middle of the river’ driving a Ferrari SF-25 “that doesn’t know how to dance.”
According to Juan Pablo Montoya, the spark between Lewis Hamilton and the Ferrari team hasn’t fully ignited yet, and the Colombian emphasized that from his point of view, if he were among the Ferrari engineers, he wouldn’t take what Hamilton says ‘personally,’ because Lewis Hamilton’s goal is simply to improve the car, not to criticize ‘unnecessarily’ those he works with.
“The engineers need to understand that Lewis is not trying to be rude to them, but is trying to improve the car,” Juan Pablo Montoya said in an interview with Casino Hawks. “You have to learn, as an engineer and as a driver, not to take things personally. Both Hamilton and the Ferrari engineers pursue the same goal. Lewis Hamilton is not questioning their competence, he’s just asking if enough is being done and in the right direction. Ego has to be left at home. There needs to be a figure who can better manage this interaction between Hamilton and the Ferrari technicians.” – he pointed out.
According to Juan Pablo Montoya, the British driver should have priority in giving design feedback because Charles Leclerc has better adaptability than Lewis Hamilton: “Charles Leclerc is used to driving imperfect cars; Ferrari should listen to Lewis Hamilton because, in any case, Leclerc adapts better.” – the former Formula 1 driver concluded.
