Jorge Lorenzo has analysed what some MotoGP riders are missing in order to truly be the best. In doing so, he also mentions Formula 1, but one major name is noticeably absent: Lewis Hamilton.
Jorge Lorenzo reflects on what it really takes to reach the absolute top of motorsport, speaking openly about obsession, sacrifice and mentality. In his analysis, the former MotoGP world champion mentions several drivers from both Formula 1 and MotoGP who, in his view, embody the idea of the complete champion. However, among the names he lists, one absence stands out in a surprising way: Lewis Hamilton is never mentioned.
“They don’t have the fire, the total obsession with winning. They have a life that works: a girlfriend, dogs, parties, events. For some, that’s fine. But Verstappen, Pedro Acosta, Ayrton Senna, Marc Márquez don’t. They only saw victory, only being better every single day. That’s the difference,” Lorenzo said on the Moto.it podcast, referring to the qualities that, in his opinion, some athletes lack in order to become consistent winners.
“Pedro Acosta reminds me a lot of Max Verstappen. He arrives very young, extremely strong. Like Verstappen, at least at the beginning he’s still missing the machinery, just as Verstappen initially did compared to Hamilton, but the mentality is the right one. He’s someone with talent, discipline, and he’s obsessed with training and constant improvement. Verstappen grew up like that, heavily influenced by his father, with extreme strictness,” Jorge Lorenzo continued.
“Twelve hours a day training. My father was also very strict: it’s like a military school, it makes you tough. Pedro is the same: he trains from six in the morning until eight in the evening, he’s an animal. In that sense, yes, he reminds me a bit of Verstappen,” the Spaniard added.
“Acosta wakes up every morning with only one goal: to become world champion. Ayrton Senna was the same. He lived only to be better. When you are obsessed, you have no alternatives in life. And in the end, you win,” Lorenzo concluded.
In outlining his profile of the very best, Lorenzo therefore names Max Verstappen, Ayrton Senna, Marc Márquez and Pedro Acosta. He never mentions Lewis Hamilton. It is an absence that carries weight, especially for a driver who is currently going through the most difficult phase of his career, yet who has still won more than anyone else in the history of Formula 1.

#motogp ♬ suono originale – Moto.it
