A drive like a true matador
Carlos Sainz was the only non-Red Bull driver to secure a victory in the past season, accomplishing this feat at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore with an excellent performance. The Spanish driver displayed impressive pace throughout the entire Singapore weekend, securing pole position in Saturday’s qualifying and then managing Sunday’s race like a true strategist.
With the assistance of his race engineer Riccardo Adami, the Ferrari driver successfully controlled the race from start to finish, delivering the only triumph for the Scuderia in the 2023 Formula One campaign.
The Spaniard was exceptional and spectacular, especially in the decisive moment when there were only a few laps left to the finish line.
It was precisely in the final moments that Carlos Sainz had to contend with Lando Norris (chasing his first career victory) and the two Mercedes of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, both equipped with softer and less worn-out tires.
Jolyon Palmer’s comments
Jolyon Palmer, former Formula 1 driver, was so impressed by the Spaniard’s driving that he chose the final laps of the Singapore race as the “moment of the year”: “The end of Singapore was one of the best [moments, ed] that I remember, perhaps the best overall [of the 2023 season, ed]; with four cars fighting tooth and nail on a treacherous city circuit.”
“It was a slow race, and that’s why Las Vegas is the race of the year for me, but Singapore 2023 will forever be an example of why it’s worth enduring some boring races to have an explosive finale,” explained the 32-year-old Briton.

Finally, the commentator praised the Ferrari driver: “Carlos Sainz was a genius behind the wheel. Norris gave it his all to secure his first victory. While Mercedes deserves recognition for adopting a bold strategy to try to win, rather than settling for a podium.” – he concluded.
Jolyon Palmer’s kind words undoubtedly hold relative value for Carlos Sainz, who will always remain the only driver to have beaten the RB19, the most dominant car in Formula 1 history, at least statistically.
