Johnny Herbert expressed his disbelief at not seeing Carlos Sainz in a top team next season. The Spaniard, currently under contract with Ferrari until the end of the season and set to be replaced by seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton next year, has signed a multi-year contract with Williams starting in 2025.
Johnny Herbert, discussing Carlos Sainz, emphasized how the 55 has deserved better luck in the market considering his performance on track. Currently, the Ferrari driver is fifth in the drivers’ championship with 162 points ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix and has secured a race victory in March at Melbourne’s Albert Park street circuit in the Australian Grand Prix.
“It seems incredible to me that he finds himself in this crazy situation of not having a place in a great team,” Johnny Herbert said in a recent interview with AS.
The former English driver, completing his thoughts on the market dynamics involving Carlos Sainz, said: “He would be the driver I would want on my team. If I were at Mercedes or Red Bull, he would be the one I’d want alongside the other driver. He’s driving brilliantly.” – Johnny Herbert concluded.
