Johnny Herbert has returned to discuss the internal Ferrari battle between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, describing it as a “horrible” and “frustrating” spectacle for the seven-time world champion. Despite promising starts to his weekends, Lewis Hamilton continues to struggle to shine on track, while the Monegasque driver consistently comes out on top.
In the 2025 season, the Briton has finished ahead of his teammate only three times: at Imola (Lewis Hamilton 4th, Charles Leclerc 6th), Silverstone (Hamilton 4th, Leclerc 14th), and Azerbaijan (Hamilton 8th, Leclerc 9th). In qualifying, Lewis Hamilton has performed better, claiming pole over Leclerc in China, Spain, Canada, Britain, and Singapore. Yet the overall comparison remains stark, highlighting the difficulties Hamilton faces in his first year at Ferrari. Following the summer break, the British driver admitted to some improvements, but he still struggles to translate them into race results.
Herbert: “It always goes the same way, it’s horrible”
Interviewed by AdventureGamers, former driver and commentator Johnny Herbert reflected on Lewis Hamilton’s Mexican Grand Prix: “Another inconsistent result. It was nice to see him battling with Max Verstappen. I think that was true racing. There were some contacts, but that’s how a race should be.”
He added: “But it was another frustrating weekend for Lewis Hamilton. In qualifying he looked better and seemed more satisfied with his performance. Yet in the race, nothing materialized. Something isn’t working. It’s a recurring problem, and it’s horrible to watch, while Charles Leclerc is very consistent and manages to deliver the results.”
Johnny Herbert concluded: “Lewis has said he feels more comfortable with the car. We’ll see if there are improvements in the remaining races. That’s what everyone wants. All of Lewis’ fans hope for it. But so far, nothing has truly been shown on the track.”
