At the Detroit Motor Show, John Elkann spoke for the first time about the revolution that has taken place in recent days at the top of Scuderia Ferrari. As everyone knows, Maurizio Arrivabene has been replaced by Mattia Binotto, former technical director of the Maranello team, now Ferrari’s Team Principal. John Elkann, who after the death of Sergio Marchionne, was named as chairman by the Ferrari board, said:
”There was a need to strengthen the organisational structure of the team with a figure with undisputed technical skills” – John Elkann revealed, as reported by the Italian media earlier today – “I have been working directly with Ferrari for a few months. More news coming out soon? We’ll see.” – he added, hinting at further changes.
John Elkann did not deny the indiscretion that there was tension between Maurizio Arrivabene and Mattia Binotto, and at the same time left a gap open on other possible revolutions within the organizational management of the Maranello team: “I can’t anticipate decisions that will be taken within the team in the coming months. We want to build a future that is worthy of the winning past. We want to return as soon as possible with the victory of a championship that has been missing for too long.”
Regarding the rumors that Mick Schumacher will join the Ferrari Driver Academy, Ferrari chairman John Elkann said that they will only comment on the matter once the right time has arrived. Finally, John Elkann did also not want to comment on the possible return of Stefano Domenicali to Ferrari ahead of the 2019 Formula One season.
