Jerome D’Ambrosio reflects on Ferrari’s technical evolution and explains the difficulty of making comparisons with previous years.
Ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, Jerome D’Ambrosio offered a detailed reflection on the development path of the Ferrari SF-25 compared to last year, highlighting the difficulties in drawing direct comparisons with 2024. The Belgian engineer analyzed the technical changes, the car’s behavior on low-speed tracks, and the ongoing effort to extract qualifying performance, stressing how today’s context is much more complex to interpret than in the past.
According to Jerome D’Ambrosio, one of the key elements that makes it difficult to compare data with 2024 is the large number of variables at play: “Every weekend changes. The tyre compounds, the track layout, the temperature, and also the updated technical specifications completely alter the scenario. Even though we saw good performance at Imola, we need to keep working to unlock the potential over a single lap, where we’ve recently struggled.”
The former driver also spoke about kerb management, a strong point of the SF-24 in Monaco, but harder to assess this year: “Many things evolve from one season to another, you need to hit the track to get a real confirmation.”
Another critical issue is the difficulty in finding the correct tyre operating window: “It’s not easy to extract the maximum potential in qualifying. We’ve seen it in the gaps between teammates. Performance changes quickly, and you need to be good at reading every condition.” – the Belgian pointed out.
Jerome D’Ambrosio also commented on anomalies observed in previous weekends, where the SF-25 lapped faster on used tyres than on new ones: “We have some ideas why, but until we’re on track, we can’t draw definitive conclusions. Every weekend presents new dynamics.”
Finally, he reiterated that there are no magic fixes: “You don’t gain two tenths from a single change. It’s a combination of small details that builds performance. The challenge is putting the package together in the most effective way.”
