You say Jean Todt and you think of Scuderia Ferrari. The French manager and former FIA president, was one of the protagonists, together with Ross Brawn and Michael Schumacher, of that magic trio that brought the Maranello team back to the top of the Formula One world championship after more than 20 years of difficult moments.
And, therefore, if Jean Todt talks about Ferrari he does so with a good reason, knowing well how dynamics that are experienced within the Maranello team.
The former president of the FIA, as well as team principal of Scuderia Ferrari from 1993 to 2007, spoke widely about Ferrari and the criticisms that has hit the Scuderia this season, especially those concerning the management of the race regarding the pit wall:
“This season Ferrari made a great car, which means that the team works. Something is still missing, to win you need excellence, from all points of view. And when excellence fails, it is important to understand where the error comes from. If you often make the same mistakes then it means that there is something that needs to change. Ferrari had the best car at some point in the year, but lost too many opportunities, due to different problems such as poorly timed safety cars, bad strategy decisions or reliability issues. It was a matter of several episodes that put together led to a huge price paid by the Maranello team: Ferrari needs to work on this, without taking anything for granted, ”the Frenchman said at the Trento Sport Festival.
Jean Todt, however, does not feel a change is needed at the top of the management, seeing in Mattia Binotto a capable leader: “Each era is different, I cannot give any advice to Mattia Binotto, because it is very easy to talk without knowing the situation. Ferrari is doing well, people may not realize the very high level of competitiveness that the World Championship offers. Almost all of us would like Ferrari to win championships again. The drivers’ title has been missing since 2007. I know that the Ferrari fans are waiting for a long time, but they are very close to the final goal. Maybe there will be some more possibilities next year ” – the Ferrari boss concluded.
