At the end of his mandate as president of the FIA, there was talk of Jean Todt’s return to Ferrari in a role as super consultant. It was, at the very least, a rumor with no actual consequences: the Frenchman never negotiated with President John Elkann about his return to Maranello, and recently confirmed this information at the Trento Sport Festival.
“A return to Ferrari? I must say that a lot of news may have misled public opinion, but this is part of what we live with. We must pay attention to the news that is published, they are often not truthful. Once they saw me having breakfast with Andrea Agnelli, the next day they wrote that I could work for Juventus. When I was president of the FIA, I was in regular contact with John Elkann, with whom I often spoke about Ferrari’s ambitions. But there is a difference between exchanging ideas and concretely thinking about returning. The past chapters are all beautiful, but they are made to remain in history, not to repeat themselves. I like to look forward and not backward. The past chapters are all beautiful, but they are made to stay in history. ” JeanTodt said.
The former Ferrari team principal – a position he held from 1993 to 2007 – spoke of his role in the Scuderia only in reference to the past: “When I was chosen to become team principal, the goal was to return to being champions. Between 1997 and 1999 we always lost in the last race. Then in 2000 Michael Schumacher won and on the occasion of that victory I told him that the triumph would change our lives. When you are in Ferrari, you feel the pressure, not only in Italy. The Scuderia is viewed with passion all over the world, also because, today, it is the only team capable of producing luxury cars and racing cars. My passion for racing? I would say it was natural. My father was a doctor and for him the car has always been just a means of transport. Generally this kind of passion is passed on from generation to generation, but it came naturally to me.” – the former FIA president and Ferrari boss concluded.
