In the week leading up to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Jean Alesi’s harsh comments in his interview with the Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera did not go unnoticed. The former Ferrari driver had taken aim at the recent statements from Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur regarding the decision to stop development on the current car.
Jean Alesi had described Fred Vasseur’s words as “a very weak excuse,” even going as far as saying that it was “an embarrassing attempt to protect the failure of this championship.” His remarks created a significant stir within the paddock and the Ferrari fanbase.
The exchange on Canal+
After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend at the Yas Marina circuit, Jean Alesi and Frederic Vasseur both appeared on Canal+. The atmosphere between them was friendly, as the former Ferrari driver later explained: “I gave an interview to Corriere that had an explosive effect on the Scuderia, and the first day I arrived here I went to apologize to Fred, to explain to him that it was not directed at the Ferrari staff but that we simply want to see Ferrari in front.” – the Former Ferrari driver pointed out.
