The moment is critical for Fred Vasseur and Ferrari in F1: some are certain a new team principal will arrive, while others once again defend the Frenchman.
Ferrari is at the mercy of the waves: Frédéric Vasseur cannot be the scapegoat for the F1 program. The French engineer, now in his third year leading the Prancing Horse, could leave his position at the end of the season. His contract is expiring and some are ready to bet on the arrival of Antonello Coletta from Endurance racing. But is this really enough to lift Maranello?
While the Circus heads to Austria for the eleventh round of the world championship, rumors about Frédéric Vasseur’s future continue to circulate in Italy. A swirl of speculation that seems to have tired both the Maranello apparatus and foreign media, which give less space to supposed news coming from the national press. The latest development is also the most “definitive”: according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Antonello Coletta is already ready.
The main face behind successes in WEC, he is however only one of the names linked to the Prancing Horse. After all, it seems Christian Horner does not want to move from Red Bull, or at least is more than convinced not to leave England. The question to ask remains the same: on the eve of a major technical revolution, is it really the right choice to part ways with your team principal?
Power games and the reality of the facts: Jean Alesi’s opinion
Jean Alesi also weighed in on the issue, in the pages of La Stampa. Responding to a question about Fred Vasseur’s choice to back Lewis Hamilton, the Frenchman was clear: “Vasseur does not have the power that someone like Jean Todt had. The difficulties are not in his choices, but in some people within Ferrari today who want to lead but are not competent. I believe Lewis can soon return to form, it’s a matter of adapting well to the car.”
His fellow countryman thus cleared, who has recently gained support from other paddock figures such as Nico Rosberg and Ralf Schumacher.
