A disagreement between former Scuderia Ferrari driver Jean Alesi and Sky Sport F1 HD commentator & editorial manager Carlo Vanzini took place at the end of the final round of the 2022 Formula 1 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, regarding the rumours that were reported last week by the Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport and other Italian media outlets about Mattia Binotto being replaced as Ferrari team principal at the end of the season.
Speaking in front of the Sky Sport microphones, the former Ferrari driver lashed out at the newspaper for having spread the rumour, which later turned out not to be true (at least for now), as the Maranello team moved to deny widespread reports that Mattia Binotto’s time in charge of F1 team may be up soon.
Here are some of the comments made by Jean Alesi after the Yas Marina race:
“The rumors about Mattia Binotto? I’m sorry to say it but today’s journalists, you are fooled by all these rumors that start on the Internet. It is also harmful for you, to find yourself in an embarrassing situation because there is a fool at home who starts a rumour. In Italy it came from La Gazzetta dello Sport. When Candidò Cannavò was director, it was a serious newspaper, now it’s not serious. If we look at Gazzetta or at Novella 2000 (a weekly celebrity and women’s magazine, nd) and it’s the same thing. It’s just a rumour to create hype” – the former Ferrari driver said, clearly displeased by the reports from the media.

Carlos Vanzini, for his part, defended the work of his colleagues from La Gazzetta dello Sport and the work of the Sky journalists, since the fact that Sky also reported this news after a few minutes. The journalist said: “Jean, we’ve known each other for many years and I can tell you that it’s not like that. Before publishing this information we checked, many important people confirmed it. It’s not fake news like like that of the driver who allegedly said everything” – the Sky Sport F1 HD commentator pointed out.
Finally, Jean Alesi commented: “I too am disappointed with the season. When Ferrari retires from a race, I turn off the television. But I know the Ferrari environment and I can tell you that they are only rumours” – the Frenchman concluded.
