As usual after each Grand Prix, Gian Carlo Minardi, founder of the eponymous Formula 1 outfit now known as AlphaTauri, analyzed the events of the last round of the 2022 Formula 1 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, through the columns of his official website. Among the topics covered, the Italian manager also focused on Scuderia Ferrari, praising the Maranello team for the excellent strategy that allowed them to take second place in both the Constructors’ and Drivers’ standings.
Gian Carlo Minardi first wrote: “Formula 1 gave us a fascinating and tight Grand Prix right up to the last lap. An unstoppable Max Verstappen took the victory ahead of an excellent Charles Leclerc who won his personal challenge for second place with direct opponent Sergio Perez”.
Then, delving into the question of the double “silver” secured by the Maranello team, the Italian racing manager and former racing driver added: “Despite the difference with Red Bull, Charles Leclerc has completed a feat also supported by a correct strategy on the part of his pitwall. Ferrari has grabbed second place in the constructors standings ahead of Mercedes, after finishing last season as third force. An important step forward to try to fight for first place next year”.
As for Mercedes, he stated: “As we anticipated, a swallow does not make spring and Mercedes is back to pre-Mexico. Since the beginning of the season they have been constantly improving, but in Abu Dhabi they were not able to replicate the performance seen in Brazil”.
Finally, Gian Carlo Minardi shared his thoughts on what he expects for the 2023 Formula One championship:

“A new year awaits us with numerous changes on the grid, including driver changes and new arrivals. I am very pleased to see two drivers on the track who have impressed with their talent and personality in the junior series like Oscar Piastri and Nyck De Vries who already gave us a first taste of his potential on the occasion of the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, taking, on his debut, ninth place with the uncompetitive Williams. After saying goodbye to Nicholas Latifi, the English team is preparing to welcome a third rookie: the American Sargeant who in race-2 of the Formula 2 won the points needed to get his Superlicence, thus completing the 2023 starting grid. Despite some “old men”, the starting grid is rejuvenated” – Italian manager Gian Carlo Minardi concluded.
