James Vowles stands with Fred Vasseur: following heavy external media pressure, the Williams team principal wanted to praise the significant work carried out by the Ferrari team principal in recent years. For several weeks, various reports have circulated suggesting the Frenchman will leave Maranello at the end of the season. During the Canadian Grand Prix, Fred Vasseur hit back at the Italian press over these rumors, reiterating that his sole objective is to bring Ferrari back to glory.
After hearing these statements, James Vowles spoke out on the matter, defending his colleague and friend: “First of all, I’d like to point out that I’ve known Fred for about 20 years. He’s not just a great man, but a truly outstanding leader. He takes responsibility for everything concerning the team because that’s what we do—it’s our role as team principals,” he said.
Regarding the reports circulating online in recent days, the Briton continued the interview by adding: “Personally, I’ve never been hurt or disturbed [referring to media rumors about himself]. But what I’ve seen is people being torn apart because of a single line written by someone who may or may not know the details behind it. That’s not nice at all.” – the former Mercedes team member pointed out.
Lastly, he had words of praise for the work Fred Vasseur is doing within the Maranello team: “What I’d like to say is that I have great respect for Fred and for what he’s doing at Ferrari, because they are competitive and making progress,” James Vowles concluded ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix.
