Lewis Hamilton: Ferrari’s problems are much bigger than just the SF-25
The seven-time champion stays diplomatic but drops a clear hint after another miserable weekend in Qatar
Ferrari has just endured one of its bleakest weekends of the entire 2025 Formula 1 season. Lewis Hamilton trailed home in a forgotten twelfth place, with team-mate Charles Leclerc only marginally better in eighth. The SF-25 single-seater never showed any kind of competitive pace across any session, and fourth place in the constructors’ championship is now mathematically sealed – a bitter way to end the year.
Lewis Hamilton is already mentally in 2026 mode and desperate to turn the page. Speaking after the race, he made it clear that the issues holding Ferrari back go far beyond the current car. Despite the team throwing multiple major setup changes at the SF-25 across the three days, nothing moved the needle. Sunday was 57 laps of total anonymity in the midfield.
Lewis Hamilton’s honest verdict on Ferrari’s deeper troubles
Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after the flag, the seven-time world champion did not hold back on the size of the challenge ahead.
“Charles and I gave absolutely everything to try and extract performance from this car,” Lewis Hamilton said. “I think this race really highlights that our rivals continued developing for much longer this season. We’re struggling massively just to keep a Williams behind us, for example.” – the British driver pointed out.
When pressed directly on what problems lie beyond the SF-25 itself, Lewis Hamilton chose his words carefully but left no doubt about the scale of the task:
“It’s not something I want to talk about publicly. There are a lot of things that need to change, a lot of areas we have to improve. In the coming months we’ll have to look at everything we do well and keep that, then take everything that isn’t working and change it.”
A diplomatic way of saying the rebuild required at Maranello is enormous – and the clock is already ticking loudly toward 2026.
