The negotiations between Scuderia Ferrari and Carlos Sainz for a contract extension are “ongoing”, according to the Italian media. Corriere dello Sport informs that the Spanish driver will soon sign a new deal with the Maranello team which will be available until the 2024 Formula 1 season, meaning that Ferrari would therefore have a stable and definite line-up for the next three years, as Charles Leclerc also has a deal which is available until 2024.
After the good performances shown last year, the Scuderia is ready to renew its confidence to the former McLaren, guaranteeing an internal continuity that has been missing for a few years, since Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen formed the Maranello team’s line-up. The two Formula 1 world champions shared the Ferrari garage from the 2015 season to 2018, the year in which the Finn moved to Alfa Romeo, as Charles Leclerc was promoted to the Italian side.

Regarding the financial and economic aspect of the new agreement, which should be formalized before the start of the 2022 Formula One season, no information has yet been leaked by the Italian media, but Corriere dello Sport reports that it is reasonable to expect an increase of the salary as a result of Carlos Sainz’s positive first year alongside the Maranello team. The Spanish driver finished the 2021 campaign in fifth place, behind the Mercedes and Red Bull drivers. The Spaniard also had a strong contribution as Scuderia Ferrari defeated McLaren in the balltle for third place in the 2021 Formula 1 Constructor Standings. Carlos Sainz will now be looking forward to the new season, with the target of scoring his first Formula 1 win in 2022.
