Today edition of the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport speaks of a general agreement between Charles Leclerc and Scuderia Ferrari, informing that they are ready to finalize it (put it on paper). The official announcement of the contract extension could arrive on December 23, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Charles Leclerc has been with the Maranello team since 2016, when he joined the Ferrari Driver Academy. If the rumors from the Italian media are legit and he will really extend until 2029, the Monegasque will stay with Ferrari for a total of 13 years: “The long love story is destinated to continue for 5 other seasons, like in 2019, until Charles Leclerc turns 31”.
Regarding Carlos Sainz, Gazzetta dello Sport writes that talks have begun with the Spanish driver, though Carlos Sainz isn’t sure whether to embrace Ferrari’s cause or not. Apparently the Spaniard wants a contract extension of at least two years while the Italian side just wants to extend for one more year. One of the reasons are supposedly not to miss out opportunities to get another driver. Among the names are Lando Norris, whose contract expires in 2025 with McLaren.
Gazzetta dello Sport: “It is precisely the McLaren that could be the future destination for Carlos Sainz, for whom a place at Red Bull could also open up in the event of Sergio Perez’s departure.” – the Italian newspaper informs.
