Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc is ready to return to the particular Baku City Circuit, which in 2019 saw him make a mistake in qualifying during Q1. Meanwhile, the internal dualism is growing with teammate Carlos Sainz, for the moment in a healthy and constructive way. Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport analyzed the moment of Ferrari and its ‘Captain’.
“From one street circuit to another, but no one is under any illusions. Everyone is well aware that Baku will be different, in many ways the exact opposite, compared to what we saw two weeks ago in Monte Carlo. […] Baku […] has the reputation of being a crazy race, with plenty of overtaking. On average, in the four previous events, there were no less than 51 passes per GP […] with its 6.003 meters it is a kind of mythological animal: half Monte Carlo and half Monza. […].
It is therefore obvious that Mattia Binotto’s words of satisfaction in Monte Carlo may not find confirmation on Baku’s long, very fast straight: “We must be happy to have developed a lot of load at low speed». […]. Then it is true, once you have completed the circumnavigation of the government building, you enter the old city, where the track reflects the typical iconography of the city circuit, with that turn 8, under the tower of the walls, as a symbol. Where the characteristics of the SF21 could be perfect. On the other hand, however, that exact point, the wall under the tower, refers to a bad memory. It is there that in 2019, in his first year as a Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc crashed in qualifying, after he had set the best time in Q1 and lost any chance of taking pole. […]. Impossible not to think about it today, after he made a mistake in Monte Carlo on Saturday even at the last Grand Prix. There he had already secured pole position, but still paid dearly for that mistake […].
If Ferrari returns, as is likely, to lose a few tenths compared to Mercedes and Red Bull, Charles is expected to come up with something to remain as close to them as possible. […]. At least in terms of how quickly Carlos Sainz is adapting to the SF21: that he would make very few mistakes, almost none, it was predictable […]. That he would have been competitive so quickly, however, was not imaginable. […]. In a ranking that certifies a fact: the internal rivalry has already begun. […]. And then who knows, maybe both “Carletti” have a presentiment and are warming up for a battle even in the family.” – Mario Salvini wrote for La Gazzetta dello Sport.
