Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of ACI Italia, has admitted that he is worried for 2020 Italian Grand Prix. In an interview released to the Gazzetta dello Sport, he expresses doubts that the Formula 1 Italian GP that should be held on September 6th can take place with public, given that the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza is located in Lombardy, the region most affected by COVID-19.
“We are experiencing a situation of great uncertainty and at this moment we must act with caution and attention – admits Sticchi Damiani – The priority is to understand what happens in the countries that must host the Grands Prix and in Italy and Great Britain where most of the people crowding the paddock.” – he explained, as reported by Motorsport Italy.
“We can no longer afford to make mistakes like in Australia, when the Grand Prix was canceled with the public already at the racetrack: they all lost, from Liberty Media to the teams, to the local organizers. Starting again and being forced to stop would be a disaster.” – Angelo Sticchi Damiani added.

But if you do the GP behind closed doors will there be a reduction from Liberty on the cost, due to the loss in revenue from tickets?
“We will talk about it, but this topic will come later. The teams asked for 90 days’ notice to leave and if we think about July we would already be late. Maybe there will be an afterthought and 60 will be enough. “
And the Rally of Italy and Sardinia?
“We asked for a date between September and October, we hope to be able to take part in the rally …”. – the Automobile Club of Italy President concluded.
