All winning periods eventually come to an end: two-time Formula 1 world champion Mika Hakkinen knows this well, as he once dominated with McLaren, just like Red Bull is winning race after race today.
Max Verstappen has won 10 out of 12 races in the first half of the 2023 Formula 1 season, including eight consecutive victories; since the Miami Grand Prix, the Dutchman hasn’t stopped, always reaching the top step of the podium. The two-time world champion, on the verge of securing his third title, has left nothing to his opponents. Not even his teammate, Sergio Pérez, who is currently second in the drivers’ championship ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix.
Mika Hakkinen responds to those who criticize the 2023 Formula 1 championship as “boring”; throughout the history of this sport, there have always been long periods of dominance.
If Ferrari fans are still chasing a victory this year, the former Finnish driver assures them that all dominances are bound to end.
“When I was racing in Formula 1 and dominating in 1998 with my teammate, David Coulthard, I felt that the year was fantastic,” Mika Hakkinen said in an exclusive interview with RacingNews365 – “It wasn’t boring, and I’m sure Max is experiencing the same thing. He’s not bored, he doesn’t think the races are dull. All the time, he’s thinking about pushing his limits, which is fantastic. Of course, non-Max fans may think it’s boring. Max’s fans think it’s the best year.”

The former Formula 1 driver dismisses the criticisms by explaining: “That’s how Formula 1 works.” Will Red Bull’s dominance last forever?

“No, because that’s how history repeats itself. Changes are coming. When? I don’t know, but I can only say that they deserve all the work they do and the success they’re having. Let them enjoy it!” – Mika Hakkinen concluded.
