Has Lewis Hamilton already regretted choosing Ferrari for 2025? The SF-25 simply doesn’t seem willing to be as competitive as hoped. The drivers know it well, after yet another race in Miami that didn’t go as they wanted.
All eyes remain on the seven-time world champion. After six Grands Prix, has the Sir grown tired of driving this unstable car? Someone in the paddock is defending him.
Guenther Steiner insists that the Briton does not regret the choice he made last year, when he announced to the world he was leaving Mercedes to join Ferrari. However, the former Haas boss also understands his current frustration.
Driving for the historic Maranello team is an exceptional milestone for any Formula 1 driver. And sooner or later, the paths of the Prancing Horse and Lewis Hamilton were destined to cross.
The start of 2025 has not smiled on Ferrari, which has fallen short of expectations—despite all the hype before the season had even begun. At the moment, the former Mercedes driver sits seventh in the drivers’ standings.
More than once on track, Lewis Hamilton has struggled to keep pace and has been slower than Charles Leclerc. His only moment of joy came in China, when he took pole position and then the win. Ironically, it’s Mercedes that now looks like the second-strongest team. Given recent results, many have asked whether Hamilton regrets leaving the team.
Steiner disagrees. In fact, according to the Italian engineer, #44 is simply disappointed by Ferrari’s current underperformance.

“He knew what he was doing,” Guenther Steiner said on the Red Flags podcast, speaking after the Miami Grand Prix about Sir Lewis’s decision. “For him, ending his career at Ferrari was more of a life mission. It’s the dream of many. Of course, he might have hoped for better, but I think he has time.”
Guenther Steiner believes the seven-time Formula 1 world champion still has “time to recover,” though he acknowledges the difficulties. “He’s struggling. He’s not happy right now, and he finds the position he’s in to be tough. Things might be going a bit better at Mercedes now, but Mercedes still hasn’t won a sprint race.”
