Just two weeks to go until the first race of the second half of the 2021 Formula 1 season, with action resuming at Spa Francorchamps after the summer break, but much of the attention has already turned to the next championship, as all-new car rules will be introduced in Formula One starting with the 2022 season: the highly expected target is for the sport to offer fans closer racing and create the ideal context for increase overtaking through simpler aerodynamics revolving around ground effect.
Despite the fact that the so called Drag Reduction System (DRS) did not feature on the full-scale model of a 2022 car which was revealed a few weeks ago during the British Grand Prix weekend at the Silverstone circuit, Formula 1 bosses have decided to retain it at least for one season, even though the plan is to eradicate it in the future.
Some F1 experts feel that the DRS might become irrelevant thanks to the new regulations, but many of them admit that it has contributed to making the show much better for the fans and despite being optimistic that the new regulations will have the desired effect on racing, many feel that the decision to keep the DRS is a “good idea” in case the cars will not be able to handle as expected once they hit the track and start racing in the 2022 Formula 1 season.
