Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has his secret recipe for making a special pancake. A Formula 1 driver and a skilled cook in his free time, the Maranello team’s #55 has an innate passion for cooking.
Whenever he can, the son of a racing legend takes to the kitchen, creating dishes typical of Spanish culture, as well as Italian.
His specialty, however, remains the pancake, which Carlos Sainz demonstrates he has prepared often. In a video, which you can watch at the end of the article, the Spaniard describes the steps of his recipe, which he considers “very good.”
“Take the eggs, separate the yolk from the egg white; whisk the egg white until it becomes fluffy,” explains Carlos. “Then start adding flour and the egg yolks.” The Spaniard has two secret ingredients that make the pancakes super delicious: a splash of vanilla extract and a bit of butter (for flavor). Of course, a pinch of sugar is also included.
The Spanish driver explains that you then need to mix everything, but do it gently to prevent the batter from losing its softness.
The result will be small-sized pancakes, Carlos Sainz continues, but “quite tall” and soft to the touch. Now the final steps: the batter should be cooked in a pan with some melted butter for a couple of minutes. Your dish is ready!
Carlos Sainz’s pancake is excellent for those who want a tasty snack without adding too much fat.
Passion for food
Since living in Italy, Carlos Sainz has become something of a specialist in Italian cuisine. “I learned how to make real carbonara pasta. My teacher was Italian,” he recounted in an interview with Tapas earlier this year – “I don’t cook a lot, but when I get into the kitchen, I can be quite good. I really like pasta and pizza. They eat very well in Italy. But every time I go back to Spain, I always look for steak or peppers. And, of course, tortilla, ham, and croquettes.”
And when he can’t cook or needs a quick meal, the best choice always falls on a hamburger.
