Ferrari, if you’re there, make a move. This is, in brief, what many employees and fans expect from the Prancing Horse in view of the fourth round of the 2023 Formula 1 championship, which is scheduled to take place this weekend in Azerbaijan. A season that started off on the wrong foot, with the red car not living up to the high expectations following an F1 campaign (2022), in which the chances of fighting for the world title were extinguished far too early.
And so another internal revolution arrived. Mattia Binotto was out and Frederic Vasseur was in. There were also other changes within the Ferrari Racing Division and a concrete redesign of the operational system that includes all the team’s components. The timelines required to see the first results of the changes made are obviously not short. However, a clear step forward is expected as early as the next championship event.
The FUnoanalisitecnica Italian website talked about it yesterday with their colleague and journalist Giorgio Terruzzi, who participated in the Formula One Technical Analysis podcast. During the Spit Stop show, the expert Milanese journalist addressed various F1-related issues, starting with the difficult moment that the historic Italian team is going through.
Ferrari must show a reaction
The 64-year-old Italian writer mentions the words of the Ferrari management, reiterated several times by the French executive who is convinced that the 2023 car can make a clear step forward if it is properly optimised during the championship.
To do this, the technicians in Maranello have worked very hard in recent weeks. The objective is precisely to unlock an as-yet-unexpressed performance that would somehow allow the SF-23 single-seater to approach the top, especially on Sundays.
“Something has to happen. This month has been used by Ferrari to understand how to best exploit a potential that should be there but has remained hidden in the first three world championship events. Soon there will be an intense mini-cycle of 4 races in 29 days, where a recovery in terms of performance and quality is expected especially during the race. Frederic Vasseur has reiterated several times that the concept of the SF-23 is not at all wrong, but it is only a matter of exploiting it to the fullest. This is the main theme towards Baku.”

F1: a boring show
While waiting for confirmation of the work done by the engineers of the Maranello team, another interesting topic is being discussed. We are talking about the direction that Formula One has taken since it has been managed by the US-comany Liberty Media.
Giorgio Terruzzi has very clear ideas about this scenario. He does not support it but understands it. This is because the new generation of spectators necessarily needs to be “fed” since they represent a constraint on which to establish a future.
“This turn towards the idea of show is connected to the sporting culture of this time. It is not only Formula 1 that is going in this direction, but also the entire world of motorsport. This does not mean that I agree, but it is clear how the new generations support a concept of “everything immediately”. This scenario affects many forms of communication. For this reason, I do not find it strange that even the top category of motorsport follows this path, although a whole series of complications arise. In this respect, however, we must make one clarification: if there had not been a Red Bull domination and we had seen three different winners in the first three rounds of the championship, we would not be talking about the format.
However, the Italian journalist expresses a concept that makes us reflect on the choices made by Liberty Media. Yes, because on the one hand, the results offer positive feedback, but on the other hand, they create a series of situations that are difficult to manage during the race weekend, not to mention the clear sporting monotony, as pointed out by F1 expert Alessandro Arcari for the FUnoanalisitecnica Italian website.
“There is a double problem. On the one hand, there is a tendency to make the event more spectacular, and on the other hand, there is a kind of boredom on the competitive front, which precisely shifts attention to the format. In short, a culture that considers speed a necessary habit with all the aforementioned complications that this entails. A really complicated issue. Specifically, we can say that there are time constraints that are too tight to work on the track, where adaptation and reaction to the problems that arise are difficult to assimilate. Only the ability of the teams can make the difference in identifying the problems.”
