In the closing laps of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Charles Leclerc came under investigation for a borderline defensive move on Alexander Albon. Although the Ferrari driver gave the position back to the Williams during the race, the stewards still proceeded to review the incident. The official communication only arrived after the chequered flag: no penalty. Here is Leclerc’s team radio reaction, filled with questions and doubts directed at his race engineer.
After crossing the line, Charles Leclerc said to his engineer in an annoyed tone: “So now explain to me why the penalty or whatever it is.” Rightfully, Bryan Bozzi had no information yet and replied: “We’ll know at the end. Right now we don’t know. We are under investigation.”
After a few seconds of silence, Charles Leclerc replied: “What do you mean? You told me to let him through.” “Yes, because we’re being investigated,” Bryan Bozzi reiterated. “I told you what I was told,” added the Monegasque’s engineer, distancing himself from the matter.
Only after a minute came confirmation from the engineer: “No further action. We stay in sixth place.” Charles Leclerc then responded in a discouraged tone, almost dejected by how his race had unfolded, with a single word: “Ok.” Bryan Bozzi then encouraged his driver: “Thanks anyway, it was a good race. We were unlucky with the first Virtual Safety Car.”
