Iconic F1 races perfect for betting enthusiasts

The Formula One calendar is expanding all the time, and it has become one of those sports where it feels like there are constant events and opportunities for bettors. In 2024, we saw 24 Formula One events take place and some iconic races in amazing parts of the world.

Bettors will know that there are loads of different markets for the sport – and it isn’t just about betting on who is going to win or who is going to be the best over the season. There are also a lot of different sites and options for those who are interested in betting on the events, and AskGamblers UK even has a guide to the different events and bookmakers that offer markets.

In this guide, we’re walking you through some of the amazing locations and events that tend to see loads of drama in F1 and can be ideal for bettors to find certain markets.

The Canadian Grand Prix

One of the most exciting events on the calendar that has featured in a lot of different F1 seasons since 1978, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 1978 is actually built on its own island, purpose-made for the event! It is a great venue, and the North American fans ensure plenty of passion, but it is also one of the places where we have seen loads of different, dramatic finishes.

In 2011, Jenson Button made F1 history by climbing from last place to win the race in one of the most exciting and long-lasting races that we have seen. This is a course that has a real element of peril, too, due to the fact that it is surrounded by water, and we regularly see rain and wet conditions making things tricky for the drivers and potentially making for some unpredictable finishes.

Monaco Grand Prix

No list of iconic F1 circuits would be complete without Monaco. Nestled in the glamorous streets of Monte Carlo, we see a very tight and challenging twisty circuit that has been a huge part of Formula One for decades. It’s a track where precision reigns supreme. The narrow streets leave no room for error here.

Betting here often revolves around qualifying. Pole position matters more than anywhere else because overtaking during the race is nearly impossible. That’s why drivers who dominate Saturdays, such as Lewis Hamilton, often shine here. However, rain or an untimely safety car can flip the script and change the whole feel of this event. In terms of gambling, there is no denying that Monaco is a location that has a long history with gambling too, and is home to casinos as well as the racing circuit that is one of the most famous on the season’s schedule.

Monaco isn’t just a race – it’s a spectacle. From the yachts lining the harbour to celebrities rubbing shoulders in the paddock, it’s Formula One magic.

Silverstone – the home of Formula One

Silverstone holds a special place in F1’s heart. It hosted the very first World Championship Grand Prix in 1950 in England and has been a fan favourite ever since. This high-speed circuit is famous for its sweeping corners like Maggots and Chapel, which sound like nonsense if you haven’t been to the races.

Weather often plays a key role here. One moment, the sun is shining and the next, rain drenches the track, creating chaos. That’s the UK for you. This unpredictability makes Silverstone interesting for betting enthusiasts. Underdogs can thrive in mixed conditions, especially with strategic pit stops.

The British fans add another layer of excitement. They’re some of the most passionate supporters in the sport, turning every Silverstone race into a huge event on the calendar that a lot of F1 fans dream of attending. The importance and legacy of this event have even been discussed in Parliament recently, as the UK knows what a draw these kinds of events provide.

Monza – the Temple of Speed

Monza is all about speed. Nicknamed the “Temple of Speed”, it’s the fastest track on the calendar, with cars regularly hitting over 350 km/h. The long straights and minimal corners mean engine performance takes centre stage.

For betting enthusiasts, Monza’s straightforward layout might seem predictable, but it has its quirks. Slipstream battles and DRS zones create tight margins and we’ve seen some unexpected overtaking manoeuvres. Reliability can also play a role, with engines pushed to their absolute limits and some cars famously breaking down at this circuit.

The Tifosi, Ferrari’s passionate fans, add another layer of intensity. A Ferrari win here feels like a national holiday and the crowd’s energy is contagious, and this is something we saw at the race in 2024.

Singapore

Loads of F1 fans love a night race due to how it feels and the element of drama that is added to the event. The Singapore Grand Prix brought night racing to Formula One and it has been a staple ever since. The Marina Bay Street Circuit is stunning, with cars zipping through the city under floodlights. It’s also one of the longest and most physically demanding races, often lasting close to two hours.

Singapore has a knack for shaking up the order. It’s not just about raw pace, as endurance and precision matter just as much, and the night races do have a slightly different feel to them. In terms of betting, the unpredictable nature of this event can also make things an interesting prospect – and let’s not forget the fact that there are absolutely loads of different markets, including the fastest lap and a raft of others.

Conclusion

Formula One has become one of the most popular sports in the world. In terms of global appeal, there aren’t many sports that have spread so far and wide. In terms of betting, this has meant loads of different markets and options for people to study the stats and potentially choose a market they might want to bet on. The races listed here are just some of the highlights of the calendar.
