Adrian Newey is currently the most sought-after individual in the motorsport world: following his confirmed departure from Red Bull, what might his salary be at Ferrari or Aston Martin?
Everyone dreams of having a Scrooge McDuck-like salary such as Adrian Newey’s. Or rather, everyone wishes they were him. The aerodynamics wizard is clearly the man of the moment.
His farewell from Red Bull has just been confirmed. While his next destination remains undisclosed, it’s no secret that the engineer is weighing two options: Ferrari or Aston Martin. Both top teams have been vying for his services for quite some time.
How much does Adrian Newey earn?
When Adrian Newey first joined the Red Bull team, his salary ranged approximately between 7 and 10 million dollars annually. In 2015, according to speculation, he turned down an offer of 28 million dollars to join Scuderia Ferrari. Currently, Adrian Newey’s salary with Red Bull stands at 10 million dollars per year (as reported by British daily newspaper The Guardian at the beginning of 2024).
The lavish offers from Ferrari and Aston Martin
In the early months of 2024, amidst the turmoil surrounding Red Bull due to the Horner scandal, someone saw fit to seize the opportunity to woo Adrian Newey. Aston Martin was the first to extend a generous offer to the British engineer: four years totaling 100 million dollars. However, Adrian Newey politely declined. Nonetheless, Lawrence Stroll persists, which might also explain his shrewd move to sell a quarter of his team, thus generating liquidity.

Then there’s Ferrari, which has been eyeing Adrian Newey for years without success. This time, the tables could turn. Fred Vasseur and the Red Bull designer allegedly met in secret in London to discuss matters. The Prancing Horse would be willing to match the competition’s offer with a four-year salary of 100 million dollars for Newey. In this scenario, the Briton would join Maranello as a super consultant, a role more significant than that of a technical director.
