Pirelli has issued the recommended race strategies for today’s Imola GP. Let’s see what the best choices will be for the 63 scheduled laps.
It’s time for the Formula 1 cars to hit the track for the 2024 Imola Grand Prix. After an exciting qualifying session, preparations for today’s race are in full swing, where tire management and strategy will be crucial. Here are the race strategies proposed by Pirelli for today’s Emilia Romagna GP, which starts in just a few hours.
After yesterday’s qualifying, questions have arisen about the chances of seeing a Ferrari at the front by the end of the race. Friday’s practice sessions showcased Ferrari’s strong tire management, which is essential on a track like Imola. The SF-24 EVO demonstrated good tire warm-up capabilities, crucial for the vulcanization and activation of the compound. Friday’s simulation was carried out with the medium compound, and from the 2024 history, we’ve seen that the SF-24 is very effective with the harder compounds of the weekend. This is a good premise for today’s race, with strategies favoring the hard and medium compounds.
Attention should also be given to McLaren, which showed a very consistent and effective pace on Friday. Red Bull, with Max Verstappen, cannot be overlooked either, as he overturned all predictions with yesterday’s pole position. Nothing is set in stone for today’s Grand Prix, which will be heavily influenced by strategies and possible Safety Cars that could further mix things up.

According to Pirelli’s predictions, the race strategies will mainly involve one stop, given the length of the Imola Pit lane (28 seconds). Regarding starting compounds, Pirelli has proposed the medium and hard tires, which will be assessed based on the temperatures at the start of the Grand Prix. The first two strategies involve alternating between the two hardest compounds, with M-H in the first and H-M in the second. The third, less aggressive and more open to adjustments, sees the hard compound for the start and the soft for the final stint of the race.
