From the Imola paddock, Scuderia Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur shared his thoughts on the speculation surrounding Ferrari’s interest in Adrian Newey. The iconic Italian team, set to welcome Lewis Hamilton starting with the next Formula 1 championship, is rumored to be leading the race for Adrian Newey’s highly sought-after expertise. The British car designer is expected to leave his role as chief technical officer at Red Bull early next year and is considering opportunities with rival teams.
At the F1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur was questioned about the rumors linking Adrian Newey to the Maranello team:
“We have noise, but it doesn’t matter the name. It’s noise. We need to continue to improve, it’s the DNA of our business. Continuous improvement. I am pleased with the job so far but compared to Canada, we took a step forward. We are a bit closer to Red Bull. It’s not about big names. We need to pay attention on details, to focus on this. We will continue to develop the team, for sure.” – the French manager pointed out.
According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, Adrian Newey is expected to join Ferrari next year. The report suggests that the former Red Bull man has either “already signed” or is on the verge of signing a contract with the Italian side. In recent statements, Adrian Newey dismissed the idea of retiring from Formula 1, reflecting on his father’s experience of retiring too early and regretting it.
The British engineer indicated that he would likely return to the Formula 1 paddock with a different team. Meanwhile, Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur was asked about the dynamics between his drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

The Monegasque driver is set to start the F1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix from third, just ahead of his Maranello teammate. Carlos Sainz will leave Ferrari at the end of the current F1 campaign to make way for Lewis Hamilton, who will partner with Charles Leclerc in 2025. Despite the Spaniard securing Ferrari’s most recent victories in Singapore last season and at the Albert Park circuit in Australia this year, Frederic Vasseur does not designate either Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz as the team’s No. 1 driver.

He remarked on the healthy competition between them.
“This is part of the results of the team. We have a positive imulation between them. Last year, Carlos did a fantastic job in September. He got the podium in Monza, he won in Singapore. This pushed Charles to be back in the last part of the season. We need to keep this. It is part of the result. Look at McLaren, they have the same kind of positive imulation and internal competition between Oscar and Lando. I think it’s part of the game.” – Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur concluded.
