Among the factors that can decide the outcome of the Yas Marina race is undoubtedly the choice of the right strategies: let’s see what Pirelli predicts for the F1 Abu Dhabi GP and what Charles Leclerc’s choice might be.
Three options available to the teams
According to Pirelli’s forecasts, a single stop is expected. The fastest strategy should involve starting on medium tires before switching to hard tires.
In this case, the pit stop window is between laps 20 and 26.
An alternative could be to start on medium tires and then switch twice to hard tires. If teams choose this strategy, the pit stop windows would be between laps 12 and 18 and laps 33 and 39.
The third option involves starting on hard tires and switching later to medium tires. In this case, the pit stop window would be between laps 33 and 39. This might be Charles Leclerc’s choice, as he could extend the first stint, hoping for a Safety Car that would allow him to rejoin the race for the top positions.
It should be noted that for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend, Pirelli has decided to bring Hard C3, Medium C4, and Soft C5 compounds. These are the tire sets remaining at the drivers’ disposal:
