Starting from the free practice sessions for the Belgian Grand Prix, the first race after the summer break, Ferrari has implemented a system that supports track engineers for some team radio messages in urgent situations. This support for track engineers consists of a pre-recorded artificial voice which is linked to race control and warns drivers in real time in the event of major changes to the race moments, such as Safety Car periods.
In particular, it is activated in the event of a yellow flag, red flag and safety car, both physical and virtual. In these last three cases, in addition to updating him, the driver is also automatically reminded to maintain the positive delta.
Several examples occurred during the Singapore GP, following the numerous SC and VSC. Here is one, according to f1ingenerale.com:
In this case the message is “Safety car deployed, stay positive“. As you can see, almost all of the times the communication is obviously carried out simultaneously by the track engineer for Charles Leclerc.
The main advantage of this system is to provide the driver with extremely urgent information in real time. In this way Ferrari also avoids the possibility, albeit remote, of risking a penalty due to a delay in sending the message to the driver, as the track engineer is often involved in several conversations simultaneously with engineers from several departments.
Ferrari’s commendable commitment to working on all areas, in this case communication on the track, is therefore evident, as the Maranello team is trying to improve in every aspect, without fear of experimenting with innovative solutions.
