Oliver Bearman maintains close communication with Ferrari’s Fred Vasseur as he aims to progress in F1
Oliver Bearman continues to strengthen his development as a Formula 1 driver through regular discussions with Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur, focusing on his current performance rather than potential future opportunities within the Scuderia.
The young British driver is preparing for his second full season in Formula 1 with Haas, having impressed during his rookie year in 2025. Despite racing under a Haas contract, Ollie Bearman remains a key member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and has been widely tipped as a candidate for a future seat at the Italian team when an opportunity arises.
Bearman has clarified that his ongoing discussions with Fred Vasseur do not concern his long-term career path or a potential promotion to Ferrari. Instead, these conversations revolve purely around his development and performance on the track. He communicates regularly with the French manager to highlight the challenges he faces during his F1 campaigns, ensuring that the broader context behind his race results is understood beyond the statistics and race finishes.
He explained that these sessions are essentially an open dialogue, where he shares insights on his driving performance, handling issues, and areas where he can improve. Ollie Bearman emphasized that while his performance is under review, there has been no talk of a Ferrari seat, stressing that his focus remains on maximizing results with Haas in the current Formula 1 season.
The Briton’s relationship with Ferrari began in earnest during the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix when he stepped in for a sick Carlos Sainz. Since then, he has received guidance from Ferrari regarding specific areas of his driving that could be enhanced under the new technical regulations introduced for 2025 and 2026. This includes understanding how to manage the car’s handling characteristics, tire performance, and energy deployment strategies under the updated Formula 1 rules.
The Ferrari junior has noted that feedback from the team has been constructive rather than critical, offering insights rather than evaluation. The discussions focus on performance improvements, racecraft, and adaptation to the evolving F1 regulations, particularly with engines and hybrid power unit management. Bearman acknowledged that these sessions are a natural part of his growth, as he continues to accumulate experience and refine his skills behind the wheel.
In addition, Ollie Bearman highlighted that the guidance he receives from Ferrari is crucial as he prepares to face the challenges of the 2026 F1 regulations. Being part of the Ferrari Driver Academy allows him to familiarize himself with the power units and technical nuances that Ferrari-engineered cars will feature, providing valuable insight into the performance standards required to succeed at the top level of Formula 1.
Oliver Bearman stressed that his primary focus remains on his current role with Haas, aiming to deliver strong results on track. He is confident that consistently high performance will naturally open doors to future opportunities, potentially including a seat at Ferrari when the timing is right. For now, the Briton is concentrating on honing his skills, learning from his discussions with Fred Vasseur, and making steady progress in his young Formula 1 career.
