Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc together at Aston Martin: the idea of a “dream team” under Adrian Newey’s guidance in 2027 is beginning to circulate. It is the dream of Lawrence Stroll—bringing Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc to serve under Adrian Newey at Aston Martin. A fascinating possibility, a true “dream team” capable of uniting two of the purest talents in the paddock inside the same car. It would be a deal worth enormous sums, but for now it remains far from any concrete agreement. However, Charles Leclerc’s manager has been in contact with Silverstone for quite some time.
It is no secret that next season will shape the future of the entire Formula 1 world. While the driver market should remain relatively stable between 2025 and 2026, it is from 2027 onwards that contract negotiations will intensify. The technical revolution has the potential to reshape the grid and overturn the established hierarchy: some teams will have the perfect opportunity to climb out of their current struggles, while others may fall into them.
The list of possible outsiders is long: Alpine with Mercedes power units, Audi with its huge project aimed at fighting for the title by 2030, Williams and the newcomer Cadillac. And then there is Aston Martin, arguably the midfield team with the greatest untapped potential. The Silverstone outfit’s facilities are among the most advanced and expensive in the championship. Its engineering department is filled with top-level personnel. And Lawrence Stroll’s ambitions show no limits.
A two-pronged Aston Martin: Verstappen and Leclerc arriving in 2027
In an article for Corriere dello Sport, journalist Fulvio Solms analyzes the future prospects of the British team. The 2026 season will be a lottery, and immediate victories do not seem to be part of Aston Martin’s expectations. Next season will serve as a crucial testing ground, a year to refine Adrian Newey’s project and the Honda-branded power unit. It is 2027 that Lawrence Stroll wants to push all his chips on.
Fernando Alonso’s contract will expire, and given the Spaniard’s age, it is possible the extension may not come. At that stage, the Silverstone team plans to go all-in for Max Verstappen, who was already linked to the green cars at the start of this season. The Dutchman, if Red Bull fails to meet his expectations, would be ready to explore new horizons. The battle to sign him, it is said, will come down to a fight between the British team and Mercedes.
And then there is the Charles Leclerc question. The Monegasque—whose manager has been in talks with Aston Martin for some time—wants to stay at Ferrari, but he will look elsewhere if Maranello finds itself falling behind once again. For the British outfit, he could be the “Plan B” if Max Verstappen chooses Brackley or Milton Keynes instead. But if Lance Stroll were to vacate the second seat as well, Silverstone would be ready: Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, the best of the best, united under Adrian Newey’s leadership.
