“The team had less stress”: the key moment that made Ferrari collapse
Here is the key moment of the 2025 season when Ferrari definitively lost momentum: a precise episode that caused the team to ‘relax’ and lose its competitive edge. After realizing that the SF-25 was not the car they expected, Ferrari still tried to optimize the package, achieving five podiums with Charles Leclerc. However, Jacques Villeneuve believes the team collapsed after a critical point in the season.
The Canadian GP week storm that hit Ferrari
During the week of the Canadian Grand Prix, Ferrari was hit by a real storm of controversy. The renewal of Team Principal Fred Vasseur’s contract was called into question, and he responded harshly to these rumors, even accusing the media of not helping the Scuderia to win. Once the renewal was officially announced, during the Hungarian GP weekend, it seems the team began to relax. Jacques Villeneuve shared his thoughts on OLBG.
Villeneuve: “Ferrari focused 100% on 2026”
Villeneuve explained that the renewal of Fred Vasseur changed the team’s mindset. He said there was less stress in the team after the confirmation, whereas previously, there had been some continuity. From that point, the team began to decline because Monza was expected to be the perfect weekend for Ferrari, and it was not. Previously, Baku had been a fantastic circuit, at least for Leclerc, but this year it turned out to be one of their worst weekends. Ferrari is completely lost at this moment and clearly needs direction. Next year, the team will almost start from scratch, which could be ideal for Ferrari, as Villeneuve believes the team is now focusing entirely on 2026, which is fast approaching.
Impact of SF-25 development and technical challenges
The former Williams driver also believes that Fred Vasseur’s renewal changed the team’s approach. After all, development on the SF-25 was stopped in June, and the only real upgrade intended to boost performance—the evolved rear suspension—has so far been disappointing. Data shows that the car has improved very little since the new rear solution was introduced, with the average points per race dropping significantly. While attention is shifting toward 2026, the atmosphere within Maranello does not appear calm or relaxed. Only time will tell how the team will respond.
