Monza set for major upgrade as redevelopment projects are approved
Good news has arrived for Italy and for the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. On Thursday, April 9, the Monza City Council approved three major redevelopment projects for the historic motorsport venue located in the Brianza region. These are three key works that required special building permits, granted as exceptions to existing urban planning regulations, within the area currently under concession to the Automobile Club d’Italia.
More specifically, the approved plans include the demolition of the current media center and its complete reconstruction, alongside the construction of a brand-new building that will house race control near the pit lane. In addition, there will be an upgrade to the existing Hospitality Building, including the installation of a permanent roof on the top floor dedicated to guest reception, replacing the temporary coverings that have been used up to now.
“On this occasion as well, the Municipality has made available its technical expertise, legal knowledge and organizational capabilities,” commented Mayor Paolo Pilotto. “Within a framework of stable collaboration, the many public bodies involved — including the Consorzio Villa Reale e Parco, the Parco Valle del Lambro and the Province of Monza and Brianza — have developed everything required within the established timelines and in full compliance with regulations, fully aware of the sporting and symbolic value of the Autodromo Nazionale for Monza and for the entire country.”
The President of the Monza City Council, Cherubina Bertola, also highlighted that among the speakers who took part in the project presentation phase were ACI Extraordinary Commissioner General Tullio del Sette, Autodromo director Alfredo Scala, along with executives, designers and municipal technicians, all of whom provided valuable contributions to the council’s discussion.
Following the announcement of the works, President Giuseppe Redaelli stated: “We are extremely satisfied with the outcome of the City Council vote, which represents a decisive moment for the future of our circuit. The almost unanimous consensus expressed in the vote demonstrates the shared value of this project and the awareness of the strategic importance of the Autodromo for the local area and for the country, where it generates an economic impact of around 250 million euros.”
He then continued: “I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Automobile Club d’Italia, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Lombardy Region, the Monza Park Consortium, the Valle Lambro Regional Authority, the Municipality of Monza, the Superintendence, and all the local institutions and bodies for the loyal and concrete collaboration shown over the years. It is precisely thanks to this synergy between national and local entities that we can confidently face future challenges. This collaboration must be maintained and further strengthened in order to guarantee continuity, development and a stable future for the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, preserving its central role in the international motorsport landscape.”
Over the coming months, Monza will therefore undergo a significant transformation, with the aim of maintaining the highest standards required by Formula 1, as well as by all the other racing categories that visit the Temple of Speed each year to contest rounds of their respective championships.
