Mexican GP: No penalty for Charles Leclerc, the Monegasque confirms his podium
Update – After hearing from the Monegasque driver during the race direction, the stewards have decided not to take any action against the Ferrari driver, thus confirming the podium he achieved at the finish.
“The Sporting Stewards have heard the team’s representative, the FIA Technical Delegate, and the FIA Single Seater Department Director, and reviewed the team’s video and radio evidence,” reads the statement issued a few minutes ago.
“The team’s representative explained that after the contact between car 16 and car 11 in Turn 1 on the first lap, he had monitored the situation and believed that the wing structure was sound, and he was not expecting the endplate to detach.”
“He had tried to check the situation from the live TV feed but had been unable to locate suitable footage. The FIA representatives explained that since October 2022, the standard procedure agreed upon by the teams and the FIA, confirmed in January 2023, had deemed endplate detachment and its final anchorage point position as not being considered ‘unsafe’.”
“This was confirmed to the satisfaction of the Sporting Stewards through the viewing of an email dated 22nd October 2022 and the minutes of the January 2023 SAC meeting. As a result, endplate detachment is not considered a ‘non-safe’ condition, and therefore no further action is warranted.”
