Helmut Marko on the importance of allies: “Ferrari is back, and that’s good for us”
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko celebrated Max Verstappen’s victory at the United States Grand Prix and reflected on the evolving dynamics of the 2025 championship. Max Verstappen has closed the gap on McLaren’s Oscar Piastri by an impressive 23 points and now trails the Australian driver by just 40 points. In Texas, Max Verstappen scored a perfect haul of 33 points, while Oscar Piastri collected only 10.
Oscar Piastri will need to reverse this negative trend in Mexico, particularly as teammate Lando Norris is now only 14 points behind him. The fight for the championship is intensifying, and every race counts.
Marko on Verstappen’s form and Ferrari’s role
Helmut Marko praised Max Verstappen’s dominant performance and highlighted the unexpected benefit of having Ferrari back in form. “Since his win at the Ring in the Ferrari GT3, Max has been unstoppable,” Marko said in an interview with Sky Sport. “He has set the standard with these excellent performances, and today he delivered yet again. Is there a particularly difficult race for us among those still to come? Every race is challenging, but we will continue to fight. It’s also positive to see Ferrari returning after Mercedes’ strong performance in Singapore — if we were racing alone, it would be more difficult.”
Essentially, Helmut Marko sees Ferrari’s resurgence as beneficial to Red Bull, creating a dynamic where all teams push each other, keeping the championship unpredictable and exciting as he hopes the Maranello team can take points away from the McLaren drivers. With Max Verstappen performing at his peak and key rivals closely matched, the title battle is set to go down to the wire as the season progresses.
