Ferrari – Lewis Hamilton: Pre-Monaco market buzz
In the days leading up to the Monaco Grand Prix, the most discussed Formula 1 market rumor has been, and still is, about Lewis Hamilton possibly joining Scuderia Ferrari next season, a news that was recently reported by British newspaper Daily News. According to this rumor, the Ferrari senior management would be willing to offer £40 million to the British driver in order for the seven-time Formula 1 world champion to join Maranello next season, although further details of the operation are unknown for now. Regardless of what will actually happen, the news has also reached the ears of Helmut Marko, the well-known Red Bull Advisor.
Helmut Marko’s remark
As he has often done throughout his career, the Austrian manager did not spare jokes about rival teams and drivers, doing so in this case towards Lewis Hamilton. According to f1-insider.com, Helmut Marko made a comparison between the seven-time Formula One world champion and his driver, Max Verstappen, believing that Mercedes’ number 44 feels somehow bothered by the Dutchman, particularly for two distinct reasons.
Lewis Hamilton ‘irritated’
“There are two things that irritate Lewis Hamilton a lot,” Helmut Marko stated. “The first is that he is no longer a world champion, and it will be difficult for him to become one again in the future. In addition to the sporting perspective, Lewis is far from happy about no longer being the highest-paid driver in Formula 1, as that position now belongs to Max Verstappen. This is something that can only change with the help of Ferrari.” – the Austrian manager said.
