Lewis Hamilton-Ferrari, Helmut Marko’s opinion
Even the most skeptical about Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari must admit that it is one of the most sensational moves in Formula 1 history. Two giants joining forces, with a timing that surprised everyone, creates a lot of buzz and raises many questions for their rivals. While Mercedes must recover after losing its figurehead, Red Bull at home has raised its antennas because a Ferrari with the Lewis Hamilton – Charles Leclerc duo undoubtedly has the ambition (and perhaps the potential) to win the Formula 1 title, especially looking ahead to 2026.
Helmut Marko’s comments
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko was, like the entire world, an incredulous spectator of this market move: “It was also an absolute surprise for me, something sportingly amazing, especially considering the timing. One wonders how it could happen. Mercedes was overtaken by Ferrari in the second half of 2023, and even McLaren was faster. Perhaps Hamilton has understood something that the outside world doesn’t know yet,” commented Helmut Marko in a recent interview for OE24.
“It changes nothing for us, except that Mercedes weakens, while it remains to be seen if it will strengthen Ferrari. Overall, it has an incredible effect, which will also have consequences on stock prices. For the sport, it’s a great thing, better than Netflix! Even if Mercedes cannot afford to share its most important innovations with him, he would naturally bring them to Ferrari.” the Austrian pointed out.
Max Verstappen “amused”
The Austrian then reported Max Verstappen’s reaction to his rival’s move to Ferrari: “He found it amusing.” We will see if Lewis Hamilton in red can avenge the 2021 World Championship, which, until now, was his last great opportunity to win the eighth title, lost amid the furious controversies of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
