Ferrari has a talent to nurture
Gabriel Bortoleto is beginning to prove why Mattia Binotto insisted on bringing him on board for the Audi project, but after promoting Oliver Bearman to Formula 1, the Ferrari Driver Academy has another promising driver, a fellow countryman of Bortoleto, to closely follow on the journey toward Formula 1. Rafael Camara, in fact, after winning the Formula Regional championship in 2024, has made his mark this year in Formula 3 during his rookie season, clinching the title one race early.
Born in 2005, Rafael Camara joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2022—the same year he finished third in the Italian F4 Championship behind Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Alex Dunne. In 2023, he placed fifth in the Formula Regional championship, which he won one year earlier, and this year he triumphed in Formula 3 with four victories to his name.
“We couldn’t have hoped for a better outcome,” said Jerome D’Ambrosio, head of the Ferrari Driver Academy and the operational right-hand man to Frederic Vasseur. “This season started brilliantly, Rafa managed the most intense moments well, and the Feature Race in Hungary sums it all up. Under those conditions, it was easy to make a mistake, but he showed he had everything under control. Over the past 12 months, he has demonstrated remarkable growth, and the results speak for themselves. He knows exactly what he needs and is able to assert his requirements—a fundamental trait for any driver, as it shows strength and maturity. We will continue to support him. Now, in 2026, the next step will be Formula 2, and we will have to prepare accordingly.”
