The destinies of Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli are curious. The former left Mercedes, after over ten years, to join Ferrari. The latter took his place in the Silver Arrows, inheriting his legacy.
The Prancing Horse keeps stumbling, and even Sir Lewis has admitted his struggles with the SF-25, a car that is proving too temperamental. In contrast, the young Italian talent is impressing at Mercedes, silencing those who expected a disappointing debut.
Ferrari briefly smiled with the victory in the Sprint Race in China, where Hamilton, starting from pole, dominated the race to the finish. Now, all eyes are on Bahrain, where the Scuderia is expected to introduce a new floor to correct the car’s flaws.
Peter Windsor, however, did not hold back in criticizing Sir Hamilton’s debut and still questions why he was signed if he has shown so little so far. “Whether you’re disappointed with Lewis’s performance at Ferrari depends on your expectations,” said the well-known journalist in his YouTube podcast.
“As far as I’m concerned, if there were a winning car, Charles Leclerc would be the one winning the championship. Lewis Hamilton would win races. But we don’t have such a car. Leclerc is still trying to extract its potential. Lewis can win a Grand Prix if things go well,” he stated.
“I’m not disappointed. He’s exactly where I thought he would be.”
The former Ferrari UK general manager expressed surprise that Hamilton has yet to show what he’s capable of. “He still brakes too much on the straight. He runs too wide,” he continued. “If I were Fred Vasseur, I’d ask him why he’s doing that. Relax, be that guy I saw in Formula 3. Where did he go? I’m not sure Fred would tell him. I don’t know why he signed him,” he said, suggesting it was probably a brand-driven decision by Ferrari.

“If Carlos Sainz were in that car, he’d still be doing a good job like Lewis, if not better. He would’ve done a better job at Suzuka.”
Peter Windsor pointed out how age is a crucial factor in Hamilton’s performance. “Now that he’s 40, he thinks about many more things. He doesn’t care what the press says, he’s been around long enough not to listen to what people say.”
In Bahrain, Ferrari will bring a new floor that should fix the instability problems the Briton has complained about. “Lewis has driven a difficult car for so long that he’s probably shocked Ferrari isn’t better than Mercedes. In fact, it’s worse than Mercedes if it can’t even catch Antonelli,” he concluded.
