The first two rounds of the Formula 1 2025 season have brought a fair share of disappointments for the Maranello team. With potential still hidden, strategic mistakes, and disqualifications, there is, however, a bright spot. While waiting for the first updates to bring the SF-25 back to the top, Ferrari can take pride in its impeccable pit stops, thanks to a well-drilled team of mechanics.
The Prancing Horse wants to turn the page and wake up from the nightmare of the first two race weekends. From early setup issues to the double disqualification in Shanghai, Ferrari has also struggled with strategic errors, miscommunications with drivers, and performances that have fallen short of expectations. In short, the start of the season has been nothing short of disastrous for a team that entered the championship with enthusiasm and high hopes.
Ferrari’s pit stops: “Skilled, fast, precise” mechanics
Yet, not everything is negative after Melbourne and Shanghai. Shedding some light on Ferrari’s bleak start are the performances of its pit-stop crew. Once a weakness, pit stops have now become a strong point for the Maranello outfit, thanks to teamwork that has elevated both speed and efficiency to an impressive level.
During the first two rounds, the mechanics have shown great coordination. “Skilled, fast, and precise”—this is how Gianfranco Mazzoni would describe the work of Ferrari’s pit crew in Australia and China.
Australian GP: A pit-stop double
In both opening races, Ferrari recorded the fastest pit stops. Charles Leclerc benefited the most, with particularly standout stops. At Albert Park, the fastest stop of the race was for the Monegasque on lap 34, with his tires changed in just 2.32 seconds.
Slightly slower—if it can even be called that—was Lewis Hamilton’s pit stop a few laps later. When the Briton pulled into his pit box on lap 47, Ferrari’s mechanics completed the tire change in 2.38 seconds, marking the second-fastest stop of the GP.
Chinese GP: A record 2.05s pit stop
After Melbourne’s success, Ferrari’s mechanics delivered another stellar performance in Shanghai. Once again, Charles Leclerc’s stop stood out, with his pit crew executing a lightning-fast tire change in just 2.05 seconds on lap 15.

While Charles Leclerc’s stop was the fastest of the Chinese GP, Hamilton’s also deserves recognition. Although it ranked only sixth fastest of the race, his 2.35-second stop—matching Ferrari’s record-breaking pace in Australia—was yet another display of the team’s efficiency.
As Ferrari awaits its first upgrades to unlock the SF-25’s true potential, it can take pride in its flawless pit stops. Here are the fastest stops from the first two races of the season. (Data: DHL – inmotion.dhl – DHL Fastest Pit-Stop Award)
