Matteo Bobbi, former driver and Sky Sport F1 pundit, commented on Lewis Hamilton’s performance after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix: “He needs a car suited to him, but Ferrari must demand consistency.”
Matteo Bobbi, who has been analyzing Lewis Hamilton’s difficult first season at Ferrari, spoke about the technical and mental dynamics that are holding back the seven-time world champion. After a fluctuating start to the season, Bobbi reflected on the challenges Hamilton is facing.
“I say they need to support him only technically,” Bobbi declared after the race. “They need to give him a car that can adapt to his driving style.” The former driver questioned the narrative from previous years that Hamilton and Leclerc shared a similar driving style: “For a long time, it was said that he and Leclerc had a very similar style, but I never thought that.”
Hamilton is struggling, but he needs to show something different to Ferrari
Analyzing data and past seasons, Bobbi added: “They’ve always needed cars that behaved differently.” The message is clear: to allow Hamilton to reach his potential, the SF-25 needs to be tailored to him.
But Bobbi didn’t hold back in criticizing the British driver: “They certainly need to continue giving him the product that allows him to perform. But when you hire a seven-time world champion, you need consistency from him.”
The pundit described Hamilton’s current performance as “a rollercoaster of results you expect from a rookie,” emphasizing that this is not acceptable for a driver of his experience. “If he asks something from the team, I think the team should also ask something from him.”

Hamilton, who joined Ferrari with high expectations, has shown flashes of competitiveness but also some underwhelming phases. In a season where Charles Leclerc remains solid and consistent, the internal comparison risks becoming heavy for the former Mercedes driver.
According to Bobbi, Ferrari will need to find the right balance between technical adaptation and performance demands. To return to the top, both are necessary: a fast car and a driver performing at his best every weekend.
